Frequently Asked Questions

Q. How old must my child be to play soccer?
A. The cut off for the 2019/2020 seasonal year is December 31, 2019. Participants must be 4 years old by the cut off.

Q. When are soccer games played?
A. For U6-U10, all games are either scheduled on Tuesday or Thursday at 6:00pm or 7:00pm. U12 teams play on Tuesday or Thursday at 5:45pm or 7:00pm. U14 and older teams will play on Monday nights at 5:45pm or 7:00pm.

Q. Where are games played?
A. Games are played at the beautiful Ballard Park Sportsplex. The best address is 655 Rutherford Rd, Tupelo, MS 38801

Q. When are practices?
A. Coaches are responsible for scheduling practices. Fields are open to practice Monday, Tuesday and Thursday nights and Saturday and Sunday afternoons. Practice times/days are at their discretion.

Q. Can my child play up?
A. As a department, our recreational sports are not offered to players under the age of 4. We do allow individual players to play up an age group but a parent must coach their team. This is for the safety and supervision of the child.

Q. How can my child play with their friends?
A. Registration for recreational soccer is not for a particular team, with a particular coach or individual. Our department forms teams in the same fashion throughout all of our sports. The only individuals that are offered the ability to make a selection is a coach. As a coach, we automatically place your child on your team. We also allow the coach the opportunity to freeze 2 players to their team. This gives a coach the ability to secure an assistant coach, sponsor, friend, carpool, etc. onto their team. All other players are randomly drafted onto teams. Please keep in mind that sports are not just an opportunity to play and have fun, it is also a time to socialize and interact. Playing sports is also a great way to meet new friends.

Q. Are uniforms included in our registration fee?
A. No. Uniforms are an additional expense. After registration is closed, your coach will contact you to confirm your uniform size and submit your team's order to Sports Country. Once uniforms are ready, they can be picked up individually and paid for. Uniforms typically cost between $30 and $50 and include your jersey, shorts and socks.

Q. Can we get a team sponsor to help with the cost of our uniforms?
A. Yes. Tupelo Youth Soccer Association offers team sponsors to local businesses. There is a packet that will need to be filled out and returned to our Tupelo Parks and Recreation Department. Sponsors are able to put a 1 color logo on the front of the jersey and the team name will be listed as the sponsor's name. We have over 700 kids in our recreational program so this is a great advertising opportunity. All sponsors must go through Tupelo Parks and Recreation Department.

Q. What other items will my child need?

A. Players will also need cleats, shin guards and a soccer ball. Players playing U5-U8 will use a size 3 soccer ball. Players playing U10-U12 will need a size 4 soccer ball. Players playing U13 and older will need a size 5 soccer ball.

Q. When will I know who my coach is?

A. We typically hold our coaches meetings in mid to late August. At that time, coaches will begin contacting their team.

Q. When does the season run?
A. Soccer has a 2 part season. We have one registration period that included a fall and spring season. Teams and coaches remain the same from fall to spring. The fall season runs from early September through October. The spring season runs from late February through early April.

Q. Can we move to another team?
A. We do not allow movement from team to team. This is restricted by our department's policies and regulated by Mississippi Soccer Association.

Q. Are there any end of season tournaments to attend?
A. Mississippi Soccer Association offers District and Admiral Cup as recreational events for teams U10 and older. For more information contact Laura Kramer at (662) 841-6440 or visit: District or Admiral Cup

Q. Does Tupelo Parks and Rec Department supply awards at the end of the season?

A. No. Teams may arrange trophies, medals or other items at the end of the season. That is entirely up to the team.

Q. How are age groups sorted?
A. Age groups are sorted based on the year in which the player was born. To review the birth year chart, CLICK HERE. We try to create age specific groupings when possible (i.e. U5 and U6 separate divisions rather than U5/U6 divisions playing together).

Q. Are teams/age divisions coed?
A. We do have enough players to play separate boys and girls divisions.
